“All mushrooms are edible - once”

Since I'm terrible with coming up with a clever subject line, I've decided to just put random mushroom quotes, facts, jokes etc...

What's new? Well, I've been doing a lot of reading on mushrooms and fungi as a whole. It's amazing how interesting this all is. I never thought I'd enjoy studying this much on my free time.

The weather here has been rainy and it's starting to warm up a bit, so that is really good for mushroom hunting. These photos came from the mushroom hunt I went on the 3rd of this month. Still not great when it comes to identifying, but the pictures are nice to look at.

Yet to be Identified...

Mushroom Hunt #2

This Valentines Day I spent some alone time with Mother Nature. And while I hiked the trails I found a few different mushroom species. I went to the same place as last time, but this time I walked all the way down the trail. This trip was a success. I think I've finally correctly identified a few species of mushrooms. Again, I am not an expert (yet) but I think they may be right.

1st: Caged Stinkhorn (Calthrus Ruber): The red cage shaped fungi. (Inedible)
2nd: Puffball (Bovista Plumbea): Small, white, ball shaped fungi. (Edible)
3rd & 4th: Blue-Stalked Blewit (Lepista Personata): Leathery brown cap & a pale lilac tinted underside. Flatten with age. (Edible)

My first Mushroom hunt

Today I went mushroom hunting for the first time. To my surprise and delight I found about 8-9 different species of fungi. I haven't been able to positively identify them yet but here are some of the pictures. I'll post the names once I know them for sure.

My First Mushroom Blog Post!!

I have been interested in mushrooms for quite a while but it wasn't until I saw the documentary "Know Your Mushrooms" that my interest quickly turned to obsession. Obsession is a strong word, but it's the only word I can think to use at the moment :)

The mystery and magic of mushrooms extend way beyond the well known psilocybin "Shrooms". Sure, they are extremely fascinating but that is only the tip of the mushroom iceberg. Since I am still a novice in the study of mushrooms I won't go into much detail, but as I learn so will who ever reads this blog.

My ultimate goal is to learn as much about mushrooms as possible and in August go to the Telluride Mushroom Festival in Colorado. So for now, this blog will serve as the canvas for my journey into fungi exploration and hopefully Telluride!!
